Jerry Grant

Composer/Conductor Jerry Grant has scored and supervised or conducted nearly 500 episodes of television film, contributing scoring to hit series including THE SECRET WORLD OF ALEX MACK, QUANTUM LEAP and HUNTER as well as animation, documentaries and feature films including HIRED TO KILL and IN THE COLD OF THE NIGHT. Jerry began his career as a jazz/rock studio musician in Detroit, contributing to Motown tracks, while composing and performing in the concert medium. He attended Wayne State University, The Detroit Institute of Musical Arts, USC and a M.A. in composition  at Cal State Univ. Northridge.  In Los Angeles as a studio musician on woodwinds, he began  vocal, string and horn arranging for records as well as songwriting, landing a contract at ABC records. He organized, conducted  and composed for the 12 piece Jazz/Fusion/classical concert group SPECTRUM playing concerts in the Los Angeles area. A review in Variety called it “exciting, moody and pulsating, laced with dramatic images.” The journey with SPECTRUM inspired a natural shift to television and film scoring which has kept him busy since.

Jerry was the guest conductor at  the  Sun Valley Idaho Summer Symphony, and continues to compose for the concert hall,  accepting commissions for chamber and orchestral music. He conducted the premiere of ALCHEMY for Alto Saxophone and Wind Ensemble with the UCLA Wind Ensemble in 2000 and premiered REJOICE  for Chorus and Orchestra in 2001.  The year 2001 signaled a return to his  roots with a new  jazz orchestra. Thirteen musicians plus digital audio make up the fabric of the NUJAZZ ALTERNATIVE www.nujazzalternative.com the music being an eclectic blend of dramatic music, rock, jazz, electronic and symphonic techniques.  The new CD RUSH HOUR was released in 2001. He has taught composition and orchestration at the Dick Grove School of Music and Composing and Conducting for Film at UCLA. He has served on the board of directors of the Society of Composers and Lyricists, heading the SCL’s seminar program for several years.  He is also a member of BMI.
