Composer/Conductor JERRY GRANT has worked as a composer/conductor in recording, film and TV for 35 years and has scored and supervised or conducted over 500 episodes of television film. Jerry began his career as a jazz/ rock studio musician in Detroit,
contributing to Motown tracks, while composing and performing in the jazz and concert medium. He attended Wayne State University, The Detroit Institute of Musical Arts, USC and received an M.A. in composition at Cal State Univ. Northridge. In Los Angeles as a studio musician on woodwinds, he began vocal, string and horn arranging for records as well as songwriting. He organized, conducted and composed for the 12 piece Jazz/Fusion/classical concert group SPECTRUM playing concerts in the Los Angeles area. The 10 yr. journey with SPECTRUM inspired a natural shift to television and film scoring which kept him busy for the next 25 yrs. He contributed scores to many hit TV shows, THE SECRET WORLD OF ALEX MACK, QUANTUM LEAP, MAGNUN P.I.,THE A TEAM, DARK WING DUCK and DUCKTALES to name a few.
The year 2001 signaled a return to his roots with a new 13 pc jazz/rock orchestra. The new CD RUSH HOUR, Jerry Grant and the L.A. NUJAZZ ALTERNATIVE was released in 2001. In addition to conducting for film, Jerry was the guest conductor at the Sun Valley Idaho Summer Symphony, has conducted many musicals and guest conducted for performances of his works in addition to performing on his works for saxophone .
He was a visiting instructor at CSU Chico 2006-2008, has taught Composing and Conducting for Film at UCLA from 1991 -2003 in addition to teaching in the Music in the Mountains Young Composers program 2004-2010. Jerry continues to compose for the concert hall with performances throughout the United States and Europe and has ca. 70 concert works including . works for Chorus and Chorus with Ensembles, Jazz Orchestra, Chamber Ensembles, Symphony Orchestra and Wind Ensemble.
